Your privacy on Ruebex: the short version

If you're 13 to 17, you need your parent's or guardian's OK to use Ruebex, so read this with them. The full Privacy Policy has every detail.

The sign-up box. When you tick "I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy", you confirm you're 13 or older and your parent or guardian is OK with you using Ruebex, you accept our Terms of Service, and you agree to the AI and Speaking recordings explained below. Read these pages with them before you tick it.
A higher age where you live? If the law where you live says under-18s need a parent's consent, you must be 18 or over, and you also tick "I am 18 or older." If you're younger, please don't sign up.
What we collect, and why
- Your email, password (stored scrambled) or Google sign-in details, country and an optional display name.
- Your study work: answers, results, AI feedback, Coach chats, notes and XP.
- Speaking recordings and their transcripts.
- Posts, reports and messages you send us.
- Optional extras: age, bio, goals, photo.
- Your Plus plan and payment status, and security records like a scrambled internet address.
We use it to run your account, give feedback and keep Ruebex safe. We never sell it.
How the AI works
For AI feedback and the AI Coach, we send your writing and some study details to our AI provider, outside the UK. The companies that run the AI keep nothing afterwards. We never send your name, email, photo, age or account number, and your work isn't used to train AI.
For Speaking, your recordings are saved to your account for 30 days so you can play them back (only you can open them), and a speech-to-text company turns them into text. Don't want that? Choose "Keep them on this device" on the Speaking page: nothing is uploaded, but you get no transcripts or AI feedback.
To take back your OK for AI, email info@ruebex.com, but we would then have to close your account.
AI can make mistakes. Its feedback is study help, never an official IELTS score. For Speaking it gives an estimated band: a practice estimate, not an official IELTS score. The AI Coach is a computer program, not a person. If you feel unsafe or upset, talk to an adult you trust or call your local emergency number. Keep private details like your address or school out of answers and chats.
Who can see what
- Community: all signed-in learners, including adults you don't know, see your posts and display name, and your photo if you turn on photo sharing. Read the Community Rules first, and never share your full name, address, school, phone number or social media there.
- Leaderboard: only if you join: your public name, city (optional) and XP.
- Our team and companies that help us (hosting, AI, speech-to-text and payments), some outside the UK.
- Authorities: only if the law requires it or someone is in danger.
Your choices
Photo sharing and the leaderboard stay off until you switch them on. You can download, correct or delete your information, or ask us to stop using it.
How long we keep it
Your work stays until you delete your account. Coach chats are deleted 12 months after your last message. If you don't sign in for 2 years, we'll email you, then delete your account.
Deleting your account
Go to Profile and settings → Your data → Delete your account. We delete your account, work and posts within one month. If you have Ruebex Plus, we cancel it and refund the unused time to whoever paid. Some security, payment and safety records are kept longer.
Worried or unhappy?
- Talk to an adult you trust.
- Tell us (Report, Contact us or info@ruebex.com). We confirm a privacy complaint, usually within 24 hours and always within 30 days, and tell you the outcome.
- Or contact the ICO, the UK regulator (ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint), or the regulator where you live.
Under 13? Ruebex isn't for you yet. Ask a parent to email us so we can delete the account.
